June is designated as African American Music Appreciation Month. It is our opportunity to highlight the legacy, the evolution, and the cultural impact of music by black singers, songwriters, musicians, and creators. The Quartet Music Awards (QMAs) will celebrate the heritage and the future of quartet music. Many genres of music, from Blues to Rock, built their foundations on the fundamental sounds, styles, harmonies, and swagger of black quartet gospel music.
You are invited to experience a historic night of quartet music at the Quartet Music Awards on Saturday, June 24 at the Miller Theater. Justin Rufus will host the night of legacy, ministry, musicianship, and showmanship.
The awards show will feature performances by D. Morton & Gifted, The Sonny Brown Experience, The Swanee Quintet, and more. QMA Honors (living and posthumous) will be presented to the late Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, The Lumzy Sisters, Joe Ligon (The Mighty Clouds of Joy), Darrell McFadden & The Disciples, Doc McKenzie, The Caravans, Slim & The Supreme Angels, and Rev. Andrew Cheairs and the Songbirds.
The Quartet Music Awards are the vision of D. Chubbs Morton and Connie Birth. Morton is a songwriter, musician, and front man of the quartet group D. Morton & Gifted. Birth is a Gospel radio personality and music executive.
